Electrical Technician

The Electrical Technician concentration is designed for students with no prior knowledge of electricity and builds a knowledge base and technical skills for all aspects of the Electrical Trades industry. Major units of study include:
  • Fundamentals of Electricity
  • Residential Wiring
  • Industrial and Commercial Wiring
  • National Electrical Code

Students will become familiar with the use of meters and other equipment used in the field of electricity and learn how to construct a variety of circuits.  They will learn the special installation and characteristics of industrial and commercial wiring, and conduit bending and installation.  All wiring projects will meet the National Electrical Code minimum standards.

Students will have the opportunity to earn NCCER certification for each skill set mastered and be exposed to skills that develop positive work ethics.  If space is available, adult students are permitted into the program, but high-school students have first option.  Adult applicants must meet specific entrance requirements and are responsible for Application and Registration fees (see Admissions).  For other costs associated with this program for adult students*, please see below.
 
Course Length and Meeting Times:
 
High School Program:
  • Day-time program, 5 days per week, 2 years, 1080 hours
  • First-year students: morning class
  • Second-year students: afternoon class
 Adult Program:
  • Day-time program: 5 days per week, 1 year, 1080 hours
  • Adult students attend class all day; both morning and afternoon sessions

Costs:

  • Tuition: $3,240.00*
  • Lab Fee:  $700.00
  • Textbooks: $239.00

* The 13th Year Tuition Waiver may be applied to this course for adults who qualify.
