Automotive Technology

The Automotive Technology Program is for the student who wants to be an entry-level automotive technician.  The focus of this course is on diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of automotive systems.  Safety is always stressed and is a very important part of this program.  Approximately 60% of class time is spent in the shop, or lab, area. The four core courses of instruction are:
  1. Fundamentals of Automotive Technology
  2. Basic Engine Concepts
  3. Brake Systems
  4. Suspension and Steering Systems
 Students will have the opportunity to acquire hours towards certification and be exposed to skills that develop positive work ethics.  This course is designed for high-school, but if space is available, adult students are permitted into the program.  For the costs associated with this course for adult students, please see the Adult Training Program Guide.  Adult applicants must meet specific requirements for admission into this program and are responsible for Application and Registration fees (see Admissions).
Course Length and Meeting Times:
  • Day-time program, 5 days per week, 2 years, 1080 hours
  • First-year students: morning class
  • Second-year students: afternoon class
