LPN Program Objectives


The objectives of our LPN training program are to develop LPNs who can:
  • Provide safe and effective care and comfort for the patient according to accepted standards of practice.
  • Assess basic physical, emotional, and cultural needs of the patient.
  • Assist the patient in the normal expected stages of growth and development from conception through advanced old age
  • Provide care to patients within an LPN's scope of practice, collaborating with health care team members to coordinate delivery of nursing care.
  • Facilitate the patient's ability to cope, adapt, and/or problem solve situations related to their illness.
  • Function as an advocate for the health care consumer.
  • Protect the patient's rights to privacy and dignity.
  • Collect and document patient data accurately and concisely.
  • Use effective communication when reporting and recording observations about their patient to the appropriate health care professional.
  • Revise and modify their nursing approach based on evaluations of the patient's response in collaboration with the health care team members.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for continuous personal and professional growth and education.
  • Comply with the scope of practice as outline in the Licensed Practical Nurse Practice Act of West Virginia.
